Solpadeine Max Tablets provide dual-action relief from acute moderate pain using Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate 12.8mg per tablet, for use when other painkillers have not worked.

Solpadeine Max Tablets are a Pharmacy Only (P) medicine formulated for the short-term treatment of acute moderate pain that has not been adequately relieved by paracetamol or ibuprofen alone. Each tablet contains two complementary analgesics: Paracetamol 500mg, which works by blocking the chemical messengers in the brain that signal pain, and Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate 12.8mg, a mild opioid analgesic that acts on the central nervous system to reduce the perception of pain. Together, they provide stronger relief than paracetamol alone for conditions including headache, migraine, dental pain, period pain, backache, sciatica, strains, sprains and rheumatic or arthritic pain.

This medicine contains codeine and can cause addiction if taken for more than 3 days. It must not be used for longer than 3 consecutive days without medical advice, and should not be taken alongside any other paracetamol-containing products. It is a swallow tablet — please note the Solpadeine Max Soluble version is also available if a dissolving format is preferred. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

Suitable for

• Adults and children aged 12 years and over for the short-term treatment of acute moderate pain not relieved by paracetamol or ibuprofen alone. Not suitable for children under 12 years due to the risk of severe breathing problems.

Warnings and cautions

• This medicine contains codeine and can cause addiction. Do not take for more than 3 days. If you need to take this medicine for more than 3 days, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
• Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products. Taking more than the recommended dose of paracetamol can be dangerous.
• Not suitable for children under 12 years of age due to risk of severe breathing problems.
• Do not take if you are a known ultra-rapid codeine metaboliser, are allergic to paracetamol or codeine, or are breastfeeding.
• Taking this medicine for headaches for more than 3 days can make them worse.
• This medicine may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
• Seek immediate medical attention in the event of an overdose, even if you feel well.
• Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
• Always read the enclosed patient information leaflet before use.

How to use

1. For oral use. Swallow tablets whole with water. Adults and children aged 16 years and over: take 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
2. Children aged 12 to 15 years: take 1 tablet every 6 hours if needed. Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.
3. Do not use for more than 3 days. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
